Massive fire destroys goods worth Rs 40 lakh on Makar Sankranti in Jharkhand

In a tragic incident during the Makar Sankranti celebrations, a massive fire erupted in the special market organized in Kerukocha, Chakulia, West Singhbhum district of Jharkhand. The market, featuring around 50 firecracker shops, witnessed the outbreak that resulted in the destruction of more than a dozen vehicles and goods estimated at Rs 40 lakh.

The incident occurred during the festival's special haat market, which attracts local shopkeepers selling firecrackers. For reasons yet to be determined, the firecrackers caught fire, causing chaos in the market. Approximately 50 firecracker shops were set ablaze, leading to the destruction of 13 bikes and a small four-wheeler.
